Melatonin Is a Clock Signal, Not a Sedative

Why Lower Doses Work at Least as Well
Physiological night-time melatonin concentrations are low. Doses of 0.3 to 0.5 mg produce blood levels roughly in that natural range; 5 or 10 mg produce concentrations many times higher and keep them elevated well past when they would naturally fall.
