Bioactive Compounds: Salidroside, Rosavins, and Why the Ratio Matters

Rhodiola rosea contains two chemically distinct classes of bioactives that are both necessary for the full adaptogenic effect:

Rosavins (Phenylpropanoid Derivatives)

Rosavins are a group of compounds — rosavin, rosin, and rosarin — derived from cinnamic alcohol glycosides. They are unique to Rhodiola rosea and absent in other rhodiola species, making them the chemotaxonomic marker for authentic R. rosea. Rosavins appear to mediate the monoamine-related effects of rhodiola, including inhibition of monoamine oxidase (MAO-A and MAO-B) and effects on serotonin/dopamine transport. Salidroside (Phenylethanol Glycoside)

The 3:1 rosavin:salidroside ratio is the authentication standard for genuine R. rosea. Upstream HPA Axis Effects
